What’s Hot in Suit Accessories
Men’s fashion has historically been much more creative and flamboyant than it has been in recent years, when it has taken a back seat to women’s fashion in many ways. While we might not want to reintroduce frock coats and powdered wigs, we are excited to bring in some fun and colourful trends that give us more unique style options.
Ties, bowties and cravats have long been the suit accessory of choice, and our range includes many innovative options such as the knitted tie and the skinny tie. We love the touch of sparkle that can be added with a gold bowtie, and a cravat is still a great option for sophistication and glamour. Pocket squares are a classic way to display a little burst of colour and the way you fold yours can make a big difference, with more stylistic folds available. Don’t be afraid to experiment – a statement watch can still look the part but there’s nothing to stop you going all out with a bag or lapel pin that will really turn heads.
Suit Accessories You’ll Love
When you’ve chosen your perfect suit, you’ll need to give some thought to the accessories that will complete your look. Here, we’ll share some of our favourites and we’ll also remind you that you are only limited by your own imagination!
- Ties. Your tie can add a great deal to your suit, and there are several different types to choose from so you can create the look you want. Our paisley ties are a popular choice, giving you a professional, classic look, while our knitted ties are a unique touch that will ensure you stand out from the crowd. Your tie should contrast with your shirt to create a cohesive look and many of our ties have matching pocket square. The bowtie is a great option for a formal occasion, especially if you are wearing a tuxedo, and we love this Black Satin Bow Tie that will finish off your outfit to perfection.
- Shirts. Of course, the shirt you choose will change the look of your outfit a great deal and we will always encourage you to step out of the box and try different styles and colours. A white dress shirt is the standard choice to wear with a tuxedo, and you can accessorise this with a tie and pocket square to bring your personality into your appearance. However, a two, three or four-piece suit is a little more flexible and you can play with convention by choosing a statement shirt in a bright or unusual colour or by contrasting your shirt with your suit fabric.
- Pocket Squares. A pocket square is a traditional way to accessorise your suit with a handkerchief sized square of fabric that will complement your other accessories. You might expect to match the colour of your pocket square to your tie, and this is one option, but we like to mix it up by wearing a complementary pocket square that is a little bolder. Your pocket square can be folded in a range of different ways so you can change up your look to suit your mood, and you can even make an impact by choosing a more dramatic design to give your outfit a pop of colour. Don’t be afraid to try something different, and create a wardrobe of options that allows you to experiment with pattern, colour and fold style and vary your look as you like.
- Cufflinks. Cufflinks are a great way to sneak a subtle touch of personality into your outfit, even for a very formal occasion. There are numerous options and you should consider what will work best with the shirts and jacket cuffs you prefer. A classy, heavy cufflink option will bring a sophisticated air to your suit, and you can embrace a more fun style for a special event where you want to make a positive impression.
- Lapel pins. Lapel pins, and more recently lapel flowers, offer another way to brighten up your suit and show off your accessorising game. Taking a risk with a brightly coloured pin or flower will show that you have a good sense of fun, while a more traditional option, such as a plain pin or flower, will add sophistication to your overall look.
- Shoes and socks. Shoes and socks can provide an opportunity to add a little extra flair to your outfit, and this means you don’t have to stick to the formal black socks with suit shoes combo. Colourful socks are a great way to make an impression, and you can experiment with the options to complement the rest of your outfit. We suggest wearing plain socks with patterned suits and saving your patterned or stripey socks for a suit that is made from plain fabric. Don’t forget that your socks should always be long enough to avoid a gap between socks and trouser legs! Black leather shoes work with most suits, and brown shoes are another popular choice. Again, don’t be afraid to experiment before you settle on an outfit, unless you are going to a very formal event, in which case you probably won’t find a better option than black, cap-toe Oxford shoes.
Finding accessories you love can give you the confidence to shine at your special occasions or brighten up your every day wardrobe to add a sense of fun. You can also experiment with watches and bags to create a variety of styles and we will be happy to help you find the best options for your personality and your lifestyle.
